Announces First Senior 2023 Commitment
Mai Kawahata - UC Santa Barbara
We are ecstatic to announce our first of hopefully several 2023-24 college commitments from Mountain Vista High School, in Highlands Ranch, Colorado!
Mai Kawahata has verbally committed to swim and represent the UCSB (University of California, Santa Barbara) Gauchos beginning with the 2023-24 academic year.
Mai represents Highlands Ranch Aquatics within USA Swimming, and she represents Mountain Vista High School Golden Eagles during the high school season in Colorado.
At the club level, Mai is a 2022 Summer Junior National qualifier in the 200 Breast (2:15.32 SCY) and swam at the most recent Futures meet at Texas A&M in July. At Futures, she swam the 100 Breast, 200 Breast, 200 IM and 400 IM.
At the high school level, Mai has placed as high as 9th in the 100 Breast (1:04.32), while also placing 15th in the 200 IM (2:08.40) at the 2022 Colorado State Championships in March. She also plays critical roles for Mountain Vista in the 200 Medley and 400 Free Relays.
When asked about committing to the Gauchos to continue her athletic and academic career, Mai said, “I am thrilled to be able to do all I can to help the Gauchos and Coach Rosen continue their rise towards an MPSF Championship, as well as being a part of the outstanding academic tradition at UCSB!!”

Names 2022-23 Team Captains
Highlands Ranch, CO - May 1, 2022 - Coach Rob Nasser has announced the Captains chosen to lead the 2022-23 team. Seniors Chelsea Smith, Samantha Mircetic, Mackenzie Smith, and Stella Morris will lead the team this coming season as they look to continue the momentum of rebuilding the team with the help a huge 14 member Senior class.
"To select these 4 out of our biggest-ever graduating class was the most challenging process we've had in my 8 years leading this program! The quality of student athlete in this group is unbelievable and they will set a standard that will be second to none!" Nasser said. "We are expecting a very big freshman / new athlete group this coming year and this leadership from the Captains and Seniors will be crucial to setting the tone and example for the team for the next 4 years."
The Captains were chosen as the best possible servant leaders who want to serve the team fully and provide the greatest experiences for their team, just as the captains before them have done. All this, with the same high expectations of also achieving the utmost in the classroom, as modeled last season with a team average GPA of 3.97!!
