Tryouts will consist of singles challenge matches (2 out of 3 sets) for Varsity. Varsity consists of three singles lines and four doubles lines (total of 11 girls). Most likely on Thursday (due to weather), we will begin JV doubles challenge matches, which will be a pro set (8 games). The ladder has been set based on last year's positions and will continue to be updated as challenge matches finish.

-------------------------------------------------------- I wanted to write a letter to inform you all that I am stepping down as the Head Boys and Girls Tennis Coach at Mountain Vista High School. It has truly been my pleasure to coach at Mountain Vista for the past nineteen years. It does seem like only yesterday that I was leaving a friend’s wedding and Dave Mumper called me to let me know that I was the new Head Boys Tennis Coach at Mountain Vista High School. I was twenty-four years old and I could not wait to embark on building a program at a brand new school in Highlands Ranch. I was so excited and while I made some mistakes along the way it was one of my greatest honors to serve this community in this role.
I look back at the past nineteen years with only fondness and I hope that everyone that played for me knew I cared about them as people and not just as tennis players. I always wanted to teach life lessons and I felt that the game of tennis did that very well because it taught me so much about life as I grew up playing it. I hope those who played for me and read this think of me and remember a life lesson I taught them and not a forehand or a serve. But I did teach those as well. I always wanted to win but I did feel we learned more from failure than from success and always tried to teach that when we failed.
I also made some of my greatest friends coaching at Mountain Vista. The coaches at our school are truly some of the best in the entire state. Listening to them over the years and learning from all of them has prepared me for my next chapter as the Athletic Director at Mountain Vista. I want to first thank my wife Andreya for supporting me in my coaching career. I also want to thank all of the assistant coaches that have been a part of the program for the last nineteen years. Thank you, Jill Cleverdon, Dan Gonzalez, Kendra Lavallee, Paul Angelico, Susan Cash, Lew Kosich, Stuart Foster, Mike Willsea, Evan Kruck, Jenn Ortmann, Michael Shin and others for coaching with me on the tennis court. Most of all thank you to Dave and Cole Jensen, without you two I know I could not have done this for as long as I have. You two are literally and figuratively the backbone of this program. Thank you for always encouraging me and having my back when things got tough.
Lastly, I need to thank Dave Mumper, Pat McCabe, and Shawn Terry who employed me as a coach. Thank you to Mike Weaver and Rob Ceglie for allowing me to continue to coach tennis even after they hired me as the Athletic Director because they knew I needed to still have a connection with students.
It is time for me to embark on the next chapter of life which will be continuing to support all of our athletic programs as the Athletic Director at Mountain Vista but it will also give me the time for me to be a better parent to my kids. I was blessed to have so many great parents at Mountain Vista over the years and I saw what they poured into their kids. I want to do a better job of that in the next ten years for my kids. It all goes too fast and I need to be there for those moments with them like my parents were for me and so many of you have been for your kids that played for me.
Thank you to everyone and I look forward to supporting the tennis team and hiring coaches that will take this program to even greater heights in the future.
Sincerely,
Jim Flanigan |
