2/17/2025 Vista Tennis Families,
I wanted to let you know some exciting news. We have an all-time Mountain Vista record on registrations for girls tennis. We have done a huge push to really get as many girls involved with the sport of tennis. The other coaches and I look forward to making some special memories for each and every student athlete that they will never forget. I still talk about my high school playing days from a very long time ago and my teammates are still some of my best friends. With the huge amount of sign-ups, we just wanted to be open and transparent about what we have planned as far as teams. The athletic director, my 5 other fellow coaches and I, have had numerous discussions on how to make this most effective where every girl has a great team experience. We had to bring on additional coaches and tweak court time to make it work. But we have a plan in place and I think it will work great. We will have 3 teams: *Varsity - 11 players - tryouts are done by playing singles matches (2 out of 3 sets.) Practice time is 3-5pm everyday except match days. *JV - 36 players (18 teams) - JV matches are all doubles and challenge matches will be done via 8 game pro sets. The ladder will be fluid so any given time, during the entire season, teams can move up or down. Practice time is 3-4:30pm everyday except match days. JV players are expected to be there everyday. JV plays the same Continental league schedule as the Varsity does with a couple tournaments. *C Team or Eagle Team (which has been a name used in the past) - this team is for Beginners who want to be a part of a team and learn all the rules and fundamentals of tennis in a super fun atmosphere. We will do drills, inter-squad matches, schedule a few matches against other C-teams in the area and have a fun end of the season inter-squad tournament with the entire C-Team. Practices will be 4:30-5:30pm during the week except the days the Varsity or JV have matches at home. And with this team, it is not a big deal if anyone has to miss practices as we want this to be super fun, without any pressure. Our goal is for these girls to love the sport and push them to want to move up the ladder to the JV and Varsity ranks in upcoming years. -------------------------------------- PRE-TRYOUT CAMP: For those who signed up, we will be meeting tomorrow at the courts at 3pm if you can make it - if the snow hasn't totally melted, the coaches and I will bring the girls inside and go over things with them and answer any questions. So, please tell your kids to bring their racquets, shoes and water to the courts at 3pm. Again, this camp is optional and not mandatory. We will monitor weather on a day by day basis and let you know of all updates. -------------------------------------- TEAM STORE: The team store closes tonight at midnight so please check it out to get all your awesome Mountain Vista Tennis merch. There are a lot of awesome choices but BUY NOW as it closes tonight. https://bsnteamsports.com/shop/YubCWBEQYM -------------------------------------- PARENT MEETING: Reminder, the parent meeting is February 25th at 6pm in the auditorium at Mountain Vista. The coaches and I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Lots of information to be discussed.
-------------------------------------- NEED A RACQUET: I have heard from a number of parents and students about needing a racquet. I recommend going to GAME SET MATCH (County Line and Quebec) for all your tennis needs. I am very friendly with the owner and most of the staff there. They have all the new latest and greatest racquets/shoes/bags/etc. You can also demo most all racquets as well and their staff is very knowledgeable. I was just there today and they showed me a huge wall of gently used racquets for sale that are less expensive. Also, for Mountain Vista players, they are offering 10% OFF string and new grips. Please mention Coach Jordan sent you and that you play for MOUNTAIN VISTA.
I hope you made it all the way down here as I know that was a lot of information. Once again, the coaches and I can't wait to get started with the 2025 team and huge things ahead for Mountain Vista girls tennis! Let's go Eagles! ---------------------------------------
I want to personally introduce myself and let you know how excited I am about being the new Head Coach of the Mountain Vista girl’s tennis team. I finished the fall season as the head coach of the boy’s tennis team at Mountain Vista and we had one of the most successful teams in school history. We finished #6 in the state as I took over a team that was 4-7 the previous season. I loved every second of it and look forward to carrying over the momentum into the girl’s season. I have been heavily involved in the tennis industry for well over 20 years in many aspects (teaching, coaching, running the Colorado State Open, running other special tennis events, and am currently with Babolat.) I have played tennis since I was 4 years old and it has been a passion of mine ever since. I am originally from Newport Beach, CA and moved to Highlands Ranch 20 years ago. I have 2 boys. One is a senior at Highlands Ranch High School and the other is a sophomore at Arizona State University, which is my Alma Mater as well. Go Devils!
The support I have received this last year coaching the boys at Mountain Vista from the athletic director, coaches, admin, staff and families has been off the charts and I have truly found my home in coaching at Vista. My goal, as I have told all the families of the boys’ team, is to carry on the strong tradition of tennis at Mountain Vista and really build a powerhouse of a program for both the boys and girls that all students in the area want to play for. I am so excited for the challenge ahead with the girl’s program and to get to know each and every one of you and your amazing student-athletes. I am all in!!!
Now a few notes with a lot of upcoming information in the next few weeks...
-Pre-Season conditioning - if your daughters haven't been playing tennis since maybe the summer, now is a good time to find some indoor court time or find an outdoor court once the weather permits. Indoor tennis facilities like Northridge Rec Center, Randy Ross Tennis Club, Parker Racquet Club, Lifetime, South Suburban all have some clinics the girls can drop in. It is also a great idea to work on cardio so once practices start up, we can get right into tennis and not have to play catch up on conditioning.
Registration - will open on Feb 3rd and close on Feb 16th. An updated physical must be on file as well. More information on this will be sent to each of you once I get it from the athletics office. Nothing is needed at this time.
-Tryouts / Practices - will start Feb 24th - that is a CHSAA set date. So be ready to be on the courts that Monday at 3pm. Practices will run from 3-5pm.
-Parent Meeting - I will be holding an in person meeting sometime in mid February at Mountain Vista. There will be a lot discussed at the meeting and look forward to meeting everyone! Stay tuned on date.
I think that is it for now without overwhelming you with too much information. But please understand that I am fully committed to all the girls and making the Mountain Vista tennis program the best tennis program in the state, one that turns heads. I hope your girls are fully invested as well and I'm looking forward to a super fun and successful season. If you have any questions on anything I have mentioned, please let me know. Let's make this an awesome season!
